Junho Hong is an attorney at Kim & Chang. He practices primarily in the areas of civil litigation, white collar criminal defense and criminal issues related to labor and employment laws.
Mr. Hong is an expert in dealing with the operation of non-regular workers, disputes over pay, wage peak system, blanket wage system, illegal labor union strikes and statutory compliance matters, such as government audits and safety & health issues.
He is also experienced in working on cases dealing with the infringement of intellectual property rights such as patent rights and trademark rights.
Before joining Kim & Chang, Mr. Hong served as a judge for 16 years. He sat on the bench of the civil division in Seoul Central District Court, which mainly deals with labor and employment cases, for two years. He dealt with intellectual property matters as well. He also worked as a presiding judge of the criminal division of the Suncheon Branch Court.
Mr. Hong co-authored “Annotation on the Labor Standards Act,” and “Annotation on the Trade Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act” published by the Korean Supreme Court Labor Law Research Society. He authored various articles including “Issues in Practice of Expended Legal Validity of a Collective Labour Agreement” and “Study on Validity of a Falling-off in Working Conditions.” He also wrote articles on legal issues regarding intellectual property, including “Parallel Importation of Genuine Goods.”
Mr. Hong has been a member of the Korea Association for Civil Cases Research since 1999, the Korea Criminal Case Study Society since 1998 and the Korea Association for Informedia Law since 2000. He also has been a member of the Association for Labor Law and Practice at the Supreme Court of Korea since 1997 and has served as deputy chairman since February, 2023.
Mr. Hong received an LL.B. from Seoul National University in 1991 and earned an LL.M. in civil proceedings from Harvard Law School in 2005. He also attended the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea. He was admitted to the Korea bar in 1994.
