Minyung Hong has been an attorney at Kim & Chang since 2007. He practices in a wide range of finance law areas and various regulations of listed companies, with a focus on corporate governance, insolvency & restructuring, mergers & acquisitions, banking, securities, and capital market.
Throughout his career, Mr. Hong has been actively involved in many high-profile transactions in Korea or relating to Korean businesses, advising clients on issues regarding corporate governance, insolvency & restructuring, mergers & acquisitions, banking, securities, and capital market.
Mr. Hong represents financial and non-financial clients in relation to its restructuring of corporate governance which typically includes establishment of financial or non-financial holding companies and mergers/spin-offs of related companies.
He also represents numerous overseas and domestic clients in relation to the rehabilitation or bankruptcy proceedings of domestic debtor companies. Rehabilitation or bankruptcy proceedings are governed by the Korean court, and therefore, thorough understanding of local bankruptcy law and the position of Korean court are keys to a successful protection of rights of creditors. He also represents other debtor companies in relation to rehabilitation proceedings and work-out proceedings.
Mr. Hong also represents private equity funds on various mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, capital markets and other projects.
He has co-authored various publications, including “Study on Improvement of Restructuring System of Financial Institutions.” As for his accomplishments, he has received the Medal of Excellence in Bankruptcy by the American Bankruptcy Institute in 2014.
Mr. Hong received an LL.M. degree from the University of San Diego, School of Law in 2014, and his bachelor’s degree of Business Administration from Seoul National University in 2006. He attended the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea in 2006. He was admitted to the Korea bar in 2007.
