Do Young Kim is an attorney at Kim & Chang’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practice and Insolvency & Restructuring Practice.
Mr. Kim has advised clients in a number of transactions in the areas covering mergers & acquisitions, private equity, insolvency & restructuring and foreign direct investments. In particular, he is highly experienced in foreign PEFs’ investments, operation, exit and related tax issues, and possesses expertise in issues related to the automotive and port industries. He has also advised and represented clients with regards to various government investigations, civil and criminal proceedings and arbitration procedures, as well as internal audits arising from investment activities. Mr. Kim advises Korean corporations under investigations by foreign authorities as well.
Mr. Kim received his LL.B. from Seoul National University College of Law in 1990 and two LL.M. degrees from Seoul National University Graduate School of Law in 1997 and Harvard Law School in 2000.
In 1992, Mr. Kim graduated with honors from the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea. After serving as a judge advocate in the Ministry of National Defense, he began his distinguished service as a judge at the Seoul District Court in 1995, handling various civil cases including medical malpractice suits. Starting his practice as an attorney in 1997 at Kim & Chang, he was admitted to the New York bar, and practiced at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York, USA, from 2000 to 2001.
Mr. Kim is a member of the Academy of Private Case Law Studies and has delivered lectures on corporate mergers & acquisitions at the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea. He has previously held positions as a director at YG Plus Co., Ltd., NPX Private Equity Co., Ltd., and Terapin Studios, Inc., a corporation based in Delaware, United States of America.
Mr. Kim also co-authored the Korea Chapter of “Getting the Deal Through - Private Equity Review 2017” (Law Business Research, 2017). He was also selected as one of the Leading Lawyers in the area of M&A and Governance by Who’s Who Legal in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
