Bio

Sung Woo Huh is a US-licensed attorney working at Kim & Chang. His primary practice areas are private capital investment, project finance, and regulatory issues in insurance and asset management industries. 

Mr. Huh advises Korean sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, major asset managers and insurers on their cross-border private capital investments. He also represents major global investors investing in Korean PEFs. His services include organization of co-mingled funds and single-asset funds, and designing of bespoke co-investment structures. Mr. Huh also advises global asset managers and insurance companies on Korean regulatory issues and has been selected as a “Rising Star” in the insurance sector by Asialaw for the year of 2022. 

Mr. Huh is one of the few attorneys in Korea who has substantial experience advising Korean export credit agencies and project developers on their financing of various international projects, including oil and gas, mining, power generation and infrastructure construction around the world.

  • Advised a global property insurer in selling its Korean business to a local insurance group.  
  • Advised a global life insurer in establishing a local subsidiary and transfer of substantially all assets. 
  • Advised a global reinsurer regarding the liquidation of its Korea branch. 
  • Assisted with internal investigation of a global life insurer’s local IGA and CA channels and commission structure. 
  • Advised a domestic reinsurer on regulatory issues related to its US sales using fronting arrangement.
