Chunsoo Lee of Kim & Chang handles various civil and criminal litigation, as well as advice related to intellectual property rights, protection of trade secrets and corporate information, entertainment, product liability, consumer claims, and protection of personal information.

Mr. Lee resigned from the Seoul Central District Court in 2007 and joined Kim & Chang. Since then, based on his knowledge in engineering, Mr. Lee has served as an advisor and legal counsel on various legal issues related to the technologies of domestic and foreign companies. On behalf of major domestic and foreign companies, Mr. Lee has obtained successful results in IP disputes such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and unfair competition, as well as product liability disputes in relation to electricity, electronics, machinery, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and energy, as well as construction and facility defects. From his years of experience at home and abroad, he provides strategic legal advice to major domestic and foreign companies on various issues.

Mr. Lee has demonstrated outstanding results in intellectual property and product liability lawsuits filed by leading foreign companies from the US, Japan, Europe, Australia, China and Taiwan. In particular, Mr. Lee was in charge of the first foreign-language trial of the Patent Court, Case No.1 of the International Panel of the Patent Court. In addition, he won Korea’s first substantive international patent lawsuit, where both the plaintiff and the defendant were foreign companies (US and Japanese companies). Mr. Lee also handled the first case to have internationally applied the Act on Prevention of Divulgence and Protection of Industrial Technology. He won the precedent case which applied the “provision prohibiting unauthorized use of another person’s performance” (so-called “catch all” clause, Article 2, Subparagraph 1, Item K) of the Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act and set the first Supreme Court judicial precedent. Mr. Lee actively led successful results in many important cases, representing not only large enterprises but also SMEs and venture companies.

Mr. Lee has published a number of papers on intellectual property rights and products, and has participated as an author of several commentaries regarding the Copyright Act, Entertainment Law, etc. In addition, he participated in the preparation committee for the 2013 Korea-US IP Judicial Conference (co-hosted by the Patent Court and the US Federal Court of Appeals). Since 2015, he has been serving as the Chairman of the International Committee of the Korean Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (the “KIPA”) and has held international IP conferences (attended by judges of the US Federal Court of Appeals, major IP attorneys of the US, and major IP attorneys of Japan). Mr. Lee has been actively participating in international IP Court conferences with the Patent Court and also serving as the Vice Chairman of the Intellectual Property Community of the Seoul Bar Association since 2019.
