Bio

Jin Hwan Lee is a foreign attorney at Kim & Chang. He practices primarily in the areas of trade remedy litigation, tax incentives, foreign direct investment, energy and regulated industries. He serves as the chair of the firm’s International Trade & Customs Practice. 

Mr. Lee joined the firm in 2000 after 20 years of distinguished service with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (now Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy), where he served as the Director of Investment Policy and Director of Injury Investigation. Before joining Kim & Chang, Mr. Lee also practiced trade remedy law in a prestigious law firm in Washington, D.C. 

With his varied experiences as a regulator and an attorney, Mr. Lee has counseled many international and domestic companies in trade remedy cases at home and abroad. He has also advised his clients on how to maximize tax incentives through foreign direct investment, and on solutions to complex investment regulations. Many foreign companies have benefited from his expertise on getting the most of investment incentives from the national and provincial governments. His practice area extends to compliance issues and privatization of regulated industries, such as the energy industry. 

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Lee has sat on several government committees and arbitration boards. He has served as a commissioner of Korea's Electricity Regulatory Commission, a regulatory body on electricity business and tariff policy. He has also presided over a number of dispute cases brought to the Electricity Regulatory Commission. In his capacity as a member of the Policy Review Committee of the Korea Trade Commission, he has helped the Korean trade remedy authorities establish legal framework and investigation manuals. 

Mr. Lee has been recognized as a leading practitioner in trade remedy areas and nominated as one of the world’s leading practitioners in the International Who’s Who of Trade and Customs Lawyers. Also commended for his contribution to trade remedy jurisprudence, he received the Industrial Service Medal from the Korean government.

Jin Hwan Lee is a foreign attorney at Kim & Chang. He practices primarily in the areas of trade remedy litigation, tax incentives, foreign direct investment, energy and regulated industries. He serves as the chair of the firm’s International Trade & Customs Practice.
