On 27 June, Kim & Chang, sponsored by the International Contractors Association of Korea (the “ICAK”), co-hosted a seminar with Covington & Burling.

The seminar was titled “ESG in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Managing Risk.” Starting with opening remarks from Dongsoo Kim, a director of Kim & Chang’s ESG Research Institute, the seminar consisted of three sessions on ESG issues in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In Session One, which focused on the “Status of ESG in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” attorney Hye Sung Kim from Kim & Chang introduced ESG Disclosure Guidelines and discussed legal issues on ESG policies that Korean companies should be aware of in advance.

In Session Two, which focused on “ESG Disputes,” Sae Youn Kim and Don Jeon from Kim & Chang discussed environmental disputes and greenwashing. Mr. Jeon also shared his views on ESG disclosure requirements in relation to future governance-related disputes.

In Session Three, which focused on the “Future of ESG in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” attorney Hye Sung Kim discussed the impact of EU and US ESG regulations on ESG developments in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The seminar successfully ended with a lively Q&A session. Our firm plans to continue inviting construction experts and hosting seminars that may be helpful to Korean companies engaging in overseas projects.
