Hye Sung Kim is a senior attorney at Kim & Chang. Her practice primarily focuses on corporate governance, ESG (environmental, social and governance), shareholder activism defense, capital market transactions, and mergers and acquisitions. 

Ms. Kim has advised numerous multinational and domestic industrial corporations, financial institutions and financial advisors on matters relating to corporate governance (including corporate restructuring and other conflicts of interest transactions), shareholder activism defense, shareholder engagement planning, and a range of ESG issues. Ms. Kim has also advised on mergers and acquisitions, JV investment and portfolio investment as well as IPO transactions across industries. 

Ms. Kim is an Outside Director of Doosan, a member of the Corporate Restructuring Plan Review Committee of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), a member of the Switching Stock Market Advisory Committee of Korea Exchange, and a member of the ESG Advisory Committee of Korea ESG Research Institute.

Ms. Kim has authored or co-authored a number of publications, including: “Lexology Getting the Deal Through - ESG & Impact Investing 2022: Korea Chapter” (Co-author, Law Business Research, 2021), “International Capital Markets and Securities Regulation: Korea Chapter” (Co-author, Thomson Reuters, 2021), “Chambers Global Practice Guide - Shareholders' Rights and Shareholder Activism: Korea Chapter” (Co-author, Chambers and Partners, 2019) and “Director’s Liability - A Worldwide Review Third Edition - Korea Chapter” (Co-author, Kluwer Law International, 2016). 

Ms. Kim earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Seoul National University in 2000, and a S.J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2018. She is a graduate of the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea (2003), and is admitted to both the Korean bar and the New York bar.
