Sookyung Lee is an attorney of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions and Antitrust & Competition Practices. He practices primarily in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, foreign direct investment and antitrust and competition matters.
Mr. Lee has extensive experience in representing multinational corporations and private equity firms in a number of high profile cross-border and domestic M&A and joint venture transactions. Mr. Lee has also advised Korean conglomerates on outbound M&A transactions and joint ventures. Mr. Lee’s experience and expertise in structuring, documenting, negotiating and executing complex M&A and joint venture transactions have well served the needs of the firm’s clients, including top-tier buy-out private equity firms, multinational strategic investors and top-tier Korean conglomerate groups.
In terms of industrial expertise, Mr. Lee has advised both listed and private companies in various industries, including insurance, consumer and commercial finance, IT, retail, chemical and automotive.
Prior to joining Kim & Chang in 2007, Mr. Lee was a Judge Advocate in the Republic of Korea Army. From 2013 to 2014, Mr. Lee was a Visiting Lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell.
Mr. Lee co-authored “The Private Equity Review (4th Edition): Korea Investing Chapter” (2015) and “The Status, Achievements and Path Forward for Regulations of Large-Scale Business Groups,” (The Business Finance Law, Center for Financial Law at Seoul National University, 2016.7.).
Mr. Lee was recognized as one of the “Rising Stars of the Year” in M&A at the IFLR Asia Awards 2016.
Mr. Lee received his LL.B. from Seoul National University in 2000. In 2004, Mr. Lee graduated from the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea and completed a Master’s Course in Civil Law at Seoul National University. He received an LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 2013.
Mr. Lee is admitted to practice in Korea and New York.
