On November 14, 2025, Kim & Chang and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, a major law firm in India, successfully co-hosted a seminar titled “Korean Companies Entering the Indian Market Through Joint Ventures: Legal Issues and Practice Trends.”

The seminar, which opened with opening remarks by our firm’s attorney Kyung-Yoon Lee and Chairman Ramesh Iyer of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea, was divided into two sessions that addressed the legal issues surrounding the establishment and operation of joint ventures (“JVs”) in India and discussed practical issues.

In Session 1 of the seminar, our firm’s attorney Seung-Hwan Cheong presented general and global legal issues related to establishing and operating JVs, as well as considerations for Korean companies. Following this, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co’s attorney Shruti Kinra provided a detailed explanation of India-specific laws and local market practices. After their presentations, Seung Jae Yoo, a foreign attorney of Kim & Chang, summarized the key takeaways from the previous discussion.

Session 2 featured a panel discussion, during which Sung Min Won (foreign attorney of Kim & Chang), So-Yeon Park (senior manager of LG Chem’s Global Corporate Legal Affairs Department) and Shruti Kinra (attorney of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co) participated as panel members and engaged in an in-depth discussion on various practical issues (e.g., licensing, contracts, human resources, etc.) that may arise when establishing and operating JVs in India.

The seminar concluded successfully with a lively Q&A session among the participants. We sincerely hope this seminar served as a valuable opportunity for Korean companies seeking entry into the Indian market to assess the risks of establishing JVs and develop effective strategies.
