Tae Hyun Choi is a senior advisor at Kim & Chang’s corporate practice. Mr. Choi covers issues regarding energy, foreign investment, international trade, industrial policies, and intellectual property (IP), based on the knowledge and experiences acquired from careers in the field of energy and resources, foreign investment, IP, and material and components.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Choi worked in the public sector, serving the Korean government including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), Presidential Secretariat and Prime Minister's Office for approximately 30 years.

Throughout those years of public service, Mr. Choi has accumulated a wide range of work experiences and expertise in the areas of nuclear power industry, petroleum industry, and energy policy coordination. As the Director of Energy and Resources Policy Division from 2008 to 2010, Mr. Choi played a pivotal role in finalizing Korea’s first Long-Term Energy Master Plan, which proposed an optimal portfolio for the supply and demand of energy from 2008 through 2030 in order to effectively address climate change issues in the era of high oil price. Furthermore, he also established a Long-Term Development Strategy in order to drastically advance the materials and components industry.

Mr. Choi’s work experience extends across a broad range of intellectual property policies and issues. He was responsible for IP-related issues in the Korea-US trade talks when he served in KIPO and also highly contributed to the successful enactment of the Framework Act for Intellectual Property Development when he served as Vice President of Office of IP Strategy and Planning in the Prime Minister’s Office from 2010 to 2011. In addition, he taught Korea’s national IP strategy as an adjunct professor of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

After retiring from the government in 2017, Mr. Choi was a visiting researcher at the Graduate School of Public Administration of Seoul National University until 2018 and a member of the Power Policy Council in the MOTIE from 2019 to 2022.
