On October 11, 2023, Kim & Chang hosted a seminar with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (“Freshfields”) titled, “Saudi Legislation and Iran Sanctions: How Will it Impact Your Exports or Projects?.”

This seminar initiated with opening remarks from Byung-Woo Im, a member of Kim & Chang’s International Project, Plant & Shipbuilding Team. Hyungkeun Lee, a member of Kim & Chang’s Economic Sanctions Practice, and Dami Park and Don Jeon, members from Kim & Chang’s International Project, Plant & Shipbuilding Team, participated as moderator and panelists respectively along with Sami Tannous and Amr Omran, Middle East experts from Freshfields.

This event highlighted the growing interest of Korean companies and the Government in Middle East projects and exports, especially in Saudi Arabia, featuring in-depth discussions on the Saudi Civil Code and the Middle East’s distribution agreements. In particular, Ms. Park discussed the commercial agency law in Saudi Arabia and shared tips for managing distribution agreement disputes in the Middle East for Korean companies. Mr. Jeon and Mr. Lee participated as moderator and panelist, and discussed geopolitical risk management in the Middle East with a focus on Iranian sanctions.
