Bio

Sang-Hyup Lee is an attorney at Kim & Chang specializing in maritime law, insurance, international trade, and international litigation and arbitration.

Mr. Lee has handled a wide range of maritime casualties arising both in Korea and abroad, including ship collisions, sinkings, crew accidents, and oil pollution incidents. He has also advised on and handled disputes across the full spectrum of shipping matters, including contracts of carriage, charterparties, cargo claims, ship sale and purchase, and ship arrest. In recent years, in addition to these traditional shipping matters, he has been actively engaged in a broad array of issues that shipping and logistics companies face, such as responses to serious industrial accidents and occupational safety incidents, as well as offshore energy projects. In the insurance field, Mr. Lee has successfully represented insurers and insureds in disputes arising from a number of major fire losses, power plant accidents, and construction-related incidents.

Mr. Lee joined Kim & Chang in 2021. In recognition of his expertise and experience in the shipping field, he has been named a “Leading Individual” by Chambers Asia-Pacific and recognized as both a “Rising Star” and a “Next Generation Partner” by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific. He has also been highlighted as a leading lawyer by Korean legal media.

Mr. Lee specialized in maritime law, earning master’s degrees in both Korea and the United Kingdom, and received his doctorate in 2021 with a dissertation on bills of lading. He serves as a director of the Korea Maritime Law Association and as a commentary panel member of the Korea Maritime Safety Tribunal. He is an active scholar who has authored numerous articles and presented at seminars both in Korea and abroad. He has also served as a lecturer in the Department of Global Logistics at the Graduate School of Global Human Resource Development at Chung-Ang University, and currently serves as an adjunct professor at both the Korea University School of Law and Hanyang University School of Law.

Sang-Hyup Lee is an attorney at Kim & Chang specializing in maritime law, insurance, international trade, and international litigation and arbitration.

Mr. Lee has handled a wide range of maritime casualties arising both in Korea and abroad, including ship collisions, sinkings, crew accidents, and oil pollution incidents.
