Byung Hoon Kwak is an attorney at Kim & Chang, practicing primarily in the areas of Financial Regulation & Compliance, Corporate Governance & Shareholder Disputes, Corporate Investigations & White Collar Defense, Administrative & Public Law Litigation, Constitutional Litigation and Environment. 

Before joining Kim & Chang, Mr. Kwak served as a judge for 15 years, first as a judge in district courts, and later as presiding judge both in district and high courts. 

During his tenure as a judge, he gained extensive experience in a wide range of civil, criminal, and administrative cases. He was also served as the Planning Director at the office of Court Administration Office of the Supreme Court.

He also worked as a Senior Research Judge at the Supreme Court for 2 years and is well informed of the procedures and know-how about dealing with cases at the Supreme Court level. 

After joining Kim & Chang in 2011, Mr. Kwak has brought about successful outcomes in various civil and criminal cases re Finance litigations, and administrative and constitutional cases. And he has dealt with a variety of legal disputes including civil, criminal, administrative and constitutional issues on behalf of corporations.  He also has been involved appeal cases in the Supreme Court. 

Mr. Kwak was named as the Secretary to the President of Republic of Korea for Legal Affairs from 2015 to 2016. As the Blue House Counsel, he advised on all legal issues of Government policies and coordinated legal issues related to government departments. 

Mr. Kwak received an LL.B. in 1991 from Seoul National University College of Law and earned an LL.M. in 2001 from Columbia Law School. He also attended the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea in 1993. He is admitted to the Korea Bar.
