On June 26, 2019, Sungmin Kim, an attorney at Kim & Chang, gave a lecture on “Privacy and Compliance” at the PIS (Personal Information Security) FAIR 2019.  PIS FAIR 2019 is the largest privacy protection conference in Korea.

Mr. Kim discussed the relationship between compliance and personal information, and stated that companies need to understand their method of approach to associated risks and responsibilities, explaining how to prepare for an on-site inspection by the Ministry of Interior and Safety and the Korea Communications Commission.  He also gave detailed explanations on the two types of inspection – document inspection and IT inspection, and explained the company’s responsibility in terms of civil and criminal cases.

Held over two days from June 25-26, 2019, the event was co-hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Korea Communications Commission and the Personal Information Protection Committee.  More than 5,000 professionals, including chief privacy officers, personal data controllers and security experts, attended the event.
