In March 2026, the Korea Fair Trade Commission (the “KFTC”) closed its investigation into allegations of abuse of market dominance and unfair trade practices against a multinational technology company, finding no violation. The investigation was initiated following a complaint by a domestic technology company, which alleged that certain product design features of the multinational technology company foreclosed its product and thereby interfered with the complainant’s business activities.

Kim & Chang assembled a dedicated response team from the outset of the KFTC investigation and demonstrated that the product design at issue reflects a common industry practice aimed at improving user experience. In particular, by relying on precedents from overseas competition authorities and considerations of consumer convenience, our firm identified logical flaws in the complainant’s arguments, developed compelling counterarguments and effectively presented them to the KFTC, ultimately securing a no violation decision.
