Soyoung KIM - Kim & Chang

Bio

Soyoung Kim is an attorney at Kim & Chang and the chief of the Kim & Chang Institute for Law and Culture. Based on her deep research and trial experience regarding the Civil Act, Fair Trade Act, and Information Act, she specializes in civil, criminal, and administrative litigations.

Ms. Kim served as a Justice of the Korean Supreme Court from 2012 to 2018. Prior to her tenure, she dealt with various judicial affairs including the establishment of judicial policies and sentencing standards, as well as judicial research for the Supreme Court while working as a judge for twenty-two years. From 2017 to 2018, she oversaw judicial administrative affairs as the Minister of the National Court Administration. She has also served as the chair of the Korea Press Ethics Commission and the Investigation Deliberation Committee of the Ministry of National Defense from 2021 to 2022 and the chair of the Korea Press Ethics Commission from 2021 to 2023.

Ms. Kim has authored several articles on civil matters, including “Division of Co-owned Property” and “Claim Right for Vicarious Compensation,” and has participated as a presenter and panelist in domestic and foreign academic conferences. She also served as the president of the Judicial System Comparison Research Society of the Supreme Court.
