James Jin Chung is an experienced antitrust and competition foreign attorney in Kim & Chang’s Antitrust & Competition Practice, with expertise in handling multinational clients in global merger reviews and KFTC investigations.

Mr. Chung has worked in a number of cross-border merger review works before the KFTC and other competition authorities worldwide. His specialty lies in merger review works before the key competition jurisdictions, including the US and the EU, as well as regulatory agencies in the emerging markets, such as Brazil, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia and Vietnam.

In addition to merger control matters, James has in-depth knowledge in various industries and sectors, such as the fashion industry (with emphasis in the luxury goods market), automotive industry (with expertise in EV batteries), aviation and shipping industries, energy sector (gas and oil), tobacco industry, semiconductor industry, and hospitality industry, including gaming regulations, and regularly advises clients in such industries and sectors.

Before joining Kim & Chang, Mr. Chung was a key member of the team at another Korean law firm that advised a major US-based semiconductor company before the KFTC in an abuse of dominance case, where he specialized in addressing FRAND-related claims. At Kim & Chang, Mr. Chung was involved in the sale of the largest food delivery app to an overseas buyer and successfully obtained the KFTC’s clearance of the transaction. Mr. Chung had also handled multijurisdictional merger control filings for major Korean conglomerates and private equity firms, as well as KFTC filings for global multinational corporations.

Mr. Chung combines his international experience with in-depth knowledge covering multiple jurisdictions to deliver effective antitrust and competition solutions for clients in global transactions and to devise strategies for the successful clearance of global deals before multiple jurisdictions.
