Bio

Hyeong-Jun Hwang is an attorney at Kim & Chang who practices primarily in the areas of environment, energy, antitrust and competition, and administrative and public law. Mr. Hwang has not only advised major Korean and multinational corporate clients on transactional and regulatory matters, but he has also successfully litigated in administrative appeals as well as civil, criminal and administrative trials. 

In particular, Mr. Hwang has extensive experience in environmental and energy related matters: he has handled various cases regarding air/water pollution, soil contamination, public nuisance, waste disposal, greenhouse gas emissions, climate change and more. His experience also includes advising clients on chemical regulations, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), environmental due diligence, renewable energy, combined heat and power plants, and nuclear power plants. 

He has authored various publications, including “Major Issues of the Korean Renewable Portfolio Standards” (Seoul National University Center for Energy & Environmental Law and Policy), “The International Comparative Legal Guide to Environment Law 2009 (Chapter on Korea)” (Global Legal Group), and “Intel Case in Korea and the EU Jurisprudence” (European Competition Law Review).

Mr. Hwang received a Ph.D. in 2018, M.A. in 2004 and L.L.B. in 1999 from Seoul National University. In addition, he received an LL.M. from the Harvard Law School in 2013. He graduated the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea in 2008.
