Hwan Beom Lee is a senior attorney at Kim & Chang, who focuses his practice primarily on antitrust & competition, anti-corruption & corporate compliance, and international trade & customs matters. He has significant experience representing major multinational and domestic clients in the food, cosmetics, and healthcare industries (including pharmaceuticals, medical device, animal health product, and public health care sectors). 

Mr. Lee has represented major global health companies on a broad range of issues, including regulatory, drug pricing and reimbursement, compliance, licensing & distribution, competition law, international trade & customs, labor, and mergers & acquisitions matters.

He is especially known for his successful representations of multinational pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology companies on antitrust and maximum reimbursement price issues. He also provides counsel to multiple global pharmaceutical companies before Korean regulators, including the Prosecutors’ Office and the Korea Fair Trade Commission on various anti-kickback and unfair trade cases. He has also successfully defended his client companies in the health industry before the Korean courts against the government’s compulsory reduction of the maximum reimbursement price of their major products.

Mr. Lee also has extensive experience handling corporate investigations & white collar defense matters by utilizing digital forensic technology for clients across various industries. In particular, he actively advises clients on issues relating to customs audits, investigations, as well as court and administrative appeals of Korean Customs’ customs duty assessments resulting from its enforcement actions.

Prior to joining Kim & Chang, Mr. Lee served as a judge advocate of the Republic of Korea Special Warfare Command.

He earned his LL.B. from Korea University School of Law in 2006, and graduated from the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea in 2008. In 2017, Mr. Lee was a visiting scholar at the University of San Diego School of Law. 

He is admitted to the Korea bar.
