Ah Young Cho is an attorney at Kim & Chang’s Environment and Maritime Practices. She specializes in advising on environmental law, marine environmental law, energy law, and ESG matters.

Ms. Cho has made significant contributions to marine environmental law and policy through her work at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST). She has been involved in numerous government research projects aimed at revising the marine environmental legal system and establishing marine spatial planning frameworks. As a member of the Republic of Korea delegation to the UN BBNJ PrepCom, Ms. Cho has also extended her impact to international ocean governance. Additionally, at the Law Research Institute of Seoul National University, she has been involved in research and provided consultancy on topics such as climate change, the circular economy, marine oil pollution, and ESG issues.

Furthermore, as a senior researcher at the Seoul National University Future Innovation Research Institute, Ms. Cho has developed an AI-driven algorithm for detecting wildfire damage using satellite data. This showcases her interdisciplinary expertise and innovative approach to addressing environmental challenges.

Ms. Cho has demonstrated her expertise and thought leadership through a prolific output of scholarly articles and book chapters. In addition to her published works, Ms. Cho is a recognized figure on the international and domestic seminar and conference circuits, serving as a speaker and a panelist on numerous occasions, where she shares her knowledge and insights on environmental law, biodiversity, and climate change.

Ms. Cho earned her Ph.D. in Law from Seoul National University in 2023, an LL.M. from Columbia Law School in 2019, a J.D. from the School of Law at Seoul National University in 2014, and a B.A. in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Seoul National University in 2011. She is admitted to the Korean bar.
