Bio

Young-Sub Shin is an attorney at Kim & Chang. He practices primarily in the areas of insolvency and restructuring, mergers and acquisitions in reorganization proceedings, and corporate governance. He also has extensive experience litigating corporate cases including insolvency and restructuring cases, M&A cases, and shareholder disputes. 

Mr. Shin has advised and represented clients on insolvency and restructuring and corporate governance issues, covering from the initial legal advisory stage to litigation, by utilizing his interdisciplinary capacity in law, finance, and accounting.

Prior to joining Kim & Chang, Mr. Shin worked as a law clerk in the Seoul High Court, handling administrative cases in 2015, and civil cases in 2016. Mr. Shin served as a police officer from 2011 to 2013. 

Mr. Shin completed MSc in Law and Finance at University of Oxford in 2023, did his master’s coursework in Civil Law at Seoul National University in 2018, and received an LL.B. from Korean National Police University in 2011. He graduated from the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea in 2015. He passed the CFA Level 1 exam in 2012 and the AICPA exam in 2017. He is admitted to the Korean Bar.

  • Represented listed and unlisted companies in their rehabilitation proceedings. 
  • Represented debtors in cases where creditors or shareholders filed an application for a commencement order of rehabilitation proceedings against the debtor’s will, and succeeded to get the application dismissed. 
  • Filed an application for bankruptcy on behalf of a creditor. 
  • Advised creditors, especially multinational corporations, on rehabilitation cases or bankruptcy cases and represented confirmatory actions. 
  • Advised on filing for a workout or voluntary agreement. 
  • Advised on financial institutions regarding settlement of profits and losses and exercise of dissenters’ rights in a workout or voluntary agreement among financial institutions and represented litigation therefrom. 
  • Represented litigation related to occurrence of massive contingent liabilities after the acquisition of companies in the rehabilitation proceedings. 
  • Represented civil lawsuits including complicated legal issues related to the insolvency law. 
  • Advised on a wide range of issues and disputes under the Korean Civil Code. 
  • Advised on shareholder disputes and represented litigation therefrom.
