Proposed Amendments to the Enforcement Decree of the Personal Information Protection Act

2020.03.31

On March 31, 2020, the proposed amendments (the "Amendment") to the Enforcement Decree of the Personal Information Protection Act (the "PIPA") were announced.

The Amendment (i) defines the "reasonably relevant scope" within which personal information can be used and provided without consent, (ii) expands the scope of sensitive information, (iii) provides for more details on processing of pseudonymized information, and (iv) establishes special provisions for online service providers.

The government plans to finalize the Amendment after canvassing opinions from interested parties from March 31, 2020 to May 11, 2020.

Please see the attachment for details of the Amendment (we do not cover the amendments regarding the structure and operation of the Personal Information Protection Committee in this newsletter).
