2021.05.13

Kim & Chang’s Intellectual Property Practice hosted a webinar on its recent win before the Supreme Court of Korea in the Eliquis® case.  The case resolved significant questions on the validity of selection invention patents in Korea.

Taking place on two separate dates, the webinar on May 3, 2021 was presented by Jay J. Kim (US attorney), Youngsun You (Korean attorney) and Sang Nam Lee (Korean patent attorney), and the webinar on May 13, 2021 was moderated by Hisanori Aoki (Japanese patent attorney) and presented by Won Kim (Korean attorney), Hyun-Shik Oh (Korean patent attorney) and Yu-Ri Yi (Korean patent attorney).  The speakers addressed important developments on how the inventiveness of selection inventions will be assessed in Korea going forward.  They also discussed main issues of the case, the Supreme Court’s holdings and major takeaways.  Well received by patent practitioners, the webinar helped deepen their understanding on how the strict patentability standards for selection inventions in Korea are evolving.
