On September 23, 2020, Yoon Jeong Lee, a member of Kim & Chang’s Environment Practice, participated as a panelist at the 54th Environmental Leaders Forum, which was hosted on the topic of “Where Are We Now in Soil Environment Management After 25 Years Since the Enactment of the Soil Environment Conservation Act?”
Ms. Lee shared her concerns in anticipation of various sanctions, such as administrative and criminal penalties, which may be imposed against a failure to conduct a soil environment assessment, and noted that a more cautious approach should be taken in adopting the mandatory soil environment assessment system.
Attended by many environmental experts, the forum hosted by the Korea Academy of Environmental Science discussed the limitation of the Soil Environment Conservation Act, soil environment assessment as a duty, and problems of the current carry-out clean-up procedure.
