The First Stakeholder Meeting on EU’s Carbon Border Tax

On May 27, 2020, Sung Woo Kim, the head of the Environment & Energy Research Institute at Kim & Chang, participated in the First Stakeholder Meeting on EU’s Carbon Border Tax held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 

More than 50 people attended the meeting to discuss the effect EU’s carbon border tax would have on Korea and to prepare for the Virtual Town Hall Meeting on EU’s Carbon Border Tax, which will be held on July 1, 2020.  The event, sponsored by the Climate Change Center, was attended by stakeholders and experts from various key Korean organizations and businesses affected by climate change.

As one of the panelists, Dr. Kim explained that “EU’s carbon border tax focuses on preventing carbon leakage and thus we may expect to see more interest towards preventing carbon leakage in the future.”
