Seminar on “US-China 5G Trade & National Security Disputes and Korea's Decisions”

2019.07.08

On July 8, 2019, Youngjin Jung, a member of Kim & Chang’s International Trade & Customs Practice, participated as a panelist at the “US-China 5G Trade & National Security Disputes and Korea's Decisions” seminar held by Korea University Cyber Law Centre.

Speakers at the seminar stated that Korean companies should take caution in introducing Huawei equipment from not only a technology standpoint but also from a trade and security perspective, and agreed that security verification should be mandatorily required.

Partaking in the seminar’s discussion, Mr. Jung said, "The current situation is not merely a problem of a single company.  Rather, this is an international political and economic competition for technological hegemony between the US and China, which cannot be resolved immediately.”  He also suggested that “the Korean government should actively persuade the interested parties, but at the same time, carefully determine the level and message so as not to provoke China.”
